Hi Eric,
Thanks for the follow-up.

Out of curiosity why do you provide network volumes via afp from a
linux machine? Wouldn't it be easier to use NFS or Samba? Afaik Mac
OS X understands and provides both protocols.
Reasons for not using NFS:
1. different file format, afp creates .AppleDouble which is same as Mac
OS file system, while NFS creates ._FileName
2. an issue with user authentication, by using ldap + NFS, user home
directory can not be granted with proper permission
3. years ago we had to entertain some Mac OS 9 computers on which had
only afp service available.
I only have good experiences with Samba shares at one company I
worked.
I haven't tried NFS shares with Mac OS X so I don't know if there
are any obvious bugs in OS X handling NFS.
Is it possible to set up a test environment where NFS or Samba
provides the network volumes/shares.
In addition if Linux provides afp shares I doubt that I can
reproduce it here. I can set up a linux machine but I have no clue
how to set it up providing afp network shares so I'd like to know
if this also occures if you try to use NFS or Samba shares to which
I may have easier access.

I tried NFS this morning, it didn't seem to crash with case sensitive
folders like arcsoft and ARCSOFT. I exported my home directory that had
been causing OpenOffice crashed, mounted it to my PPC Mac, it worked
fine so far.
However it does not seem to be possible for us to switch over to NFS in
the near future, a fix to this would be a great news to us.
