Something else you could consider is to wait until the end of the first free
year before making the purchase for the extended warantee...just be warned,
the anniversary date is from when you order the item, not from the date you
receive it...I tried to do this when I thought I would need the extended
warantee & called a couple of weeks before the date I received my unit, but
two days after I'd ordered it a year before, and Apple would not allow me to
make the purchase.  Luckily, the problem was worked out with friends at
MacTown, so I didn't need the extended warantee & haven't had issues
since...
