That "command" path would be  
/Applications/OpenOffice.org1.0.1/program/soffice      for most setups

Supposing, of course, that one had just downloaded OpenOffice.org 1.0.1 
and installed it in the Applications folder.

You can get to the /user directories using the finder's Go To folder 
menu option and type the name in.
These are invisible Unix folders where the innards of programs are 
stored. local and usr are nominally for folks that want to download 
program files and install them without worrying that you are 
overwriting a necessary bit of system file. (/local is not there btw, 
but /usr/local may be) Nominally is the operative word here, because 
some programs still don't play well together (Fink and the .mac version 
of Virex come to mind).
