I believe I'm too dense to figger this out, but still working with your comments. I really do appreciate all. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the scanner. Doesn't help. I'm 98% sure it is a scanner file that is in conflict. This iMac, with OSX, has been more reliable than I ever had any of my others be, so I can't really complain.
