Agreed. I have a shuffle I bought for the gym, and if you're listening to audio books that would be fine. But I'm mostly listening to music so I find it a bit limiting to not have a screen I can look at to browse the music. Hadn't realized it would be such an issue but it is. So I'm also thinking about getting a Nano instead.
One other consideration, depending on the fine-motor skills of your child, is that the buttons on the Shuffle are kinda small and close together. I wear mine on an arm band and I often accidentally hit the "play/pause" button instead of the "next" button when I reach over to change tunes.
