Mac OS X has had several mechanisms to avoid the Go menu from the  
beginning. The one I use is a location file. To create one, type the  
URL for the drive into Safari; e.g.,

afp://username:password at server.domain.com/volume

Select the text and drag it to the desktop, or wherever. You can  
include this file in your login items to automatically mount it  
whenever you log in.
