MacGroupies,
Filemaker just released Version 8 of their cross-platform workgroup
database development environment.
One columnist called Filemaker 8 the "Panther" of Filemaker,
referring to the version of Mac OS X that finally was mature and
robust enough to convince the OS 9 holdouts.
Many new features, some speed improvements and the file format is the
same as for 7, so upgrading should not mirror the horrors of going
from 6 to 7.
One of the many standout features for me is the ability to copy and
paste tables, fields, and scripts from within and between files.
Finally!
Other cool things include the ability to create PDF and Excel files
in just one step and a much more robust emailing engine. Now you can
create a report and email a PDF of it to someone in a flash.
Previously this was a many-stepped P.I.T.A., often calling upon third-
party plug-ins to fully implement.
There are a bunch of cool things and a lot of new features that
should speed up develop even more for an app that is already known as
a "rapid development environment."
Check it out at:

Oh, and the developer version is now called Filemaker 8 Advanced. Not
to be confused (oh, go ahead if you want to) with "Filemaker 8 Server
Advanced." <Sigh>
I guess we should put a Filemaker 8 demo on the meeting schedule
sometime in the next few months.
