Jeff, look at the slot on the side. Does it look like something  
depressed the top of the iBook and now the media slot might be a  
little narrower than original? If so keep trying with the eject key  
and use a thin pry to open the slot a bit. I have had that work quite  
recently.

Otherwise, disassembly would be no real challenge to a tech guy such  
as yourself. Just make sure to keep the screws straight.
