I purchased a Western Digital 1 gig not many months ago and it is already dead. (Firewire 400,800, USB 2) I am sure it is still under warranty but I will just eat the loss for I certainly don't intend to send it in for repair with all my personal data on it. I will never go with Western Digital again. Hope your luck is better than mine.

I got a 750gig Western Digital My Book Studio model for $159 from NewEgg.com. USB, Firewire 400/800 and eSata. Their checkout is kinda confusing, but it's workable.

Another space eater is iTunes, especially if you store music on your disk. If you have "add files to iTunes library" checked it makes a duplicate of the music file.

Simple answer delete files.
What files would cause this lots of pictures, videos and music files.
Burn them on DVD or transfer to an external hard drive.

I use WhatSize to tell me where the files that are taking up all the room are.

Always upgrade your hard drive in your computer to a bigger size and keep a back up copy.

This is really an uninformed question, but there you are!
How do you "free up space from your startup disk" because there is not enough room?
Many thanks....Sandy
