To [not] make a bootable back-up of the start-up drive on an Intel Mac

Menu includes
        Applications    folder
        etc alias refers to extant folder
        Library         folder
        System          folder
        TechTool Protection     folder
        tmp alias refers to extant folder
        User Guides +   folder
        Users           folder
        var alias refers to extant folder

1. Format the target HDD with Disk Utility:
        HDD (not volume) Partition/ Unix File System
        If partitioned, format the volume GUID also.

2. Copy start-up HDD onto target HDD using a back-up program such as SilverKeeper, CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper. A simple copy will not result in a bootable back-up.

CCC cannot see the GUID disk. Neither can TechTools,
altho they _can_ see the start-up HDD.

SilverKeeper does:

Warning: Copying to (a UNIX File System volume) will lose some functionality.
SilverKeeper will create and mount a "sparce image" file in order to avoid these issues.
Restrictions include: File size over 4GB not supported.

The start-up HDD of course holds more than 4GB. Dauntless, I proceed:

The Destination volume you have chosen does not support a large enough "sparce image" file for your Source data.
The maximum data you can backup is 4GB.
You must choose a volume with a different file system.

Plan B:

3. Reverse Restore with Disk Utility.

Disk Utility/ Restore

Source     = Start-up Drive
Destination = GUID HDD
klik Restore

Restoring will copy new data to GUIDŠ Continue?

klik OK enter your password
wait 30 seconds

An error (2) occurred while copying. (No such file or directory)

The end.
