Hey Harry,
Chances are she has broken one or more of the connections that go from the plug
to the board.
There are four pins the two outer pins are for power and the two inner pins are
for data.
I have seen a few of these and depending on how its broken it may or may not be
salvageable.
If this is the issue, the data is still there. Its just a matter of if it is
able to be soldered back together. I have in the past soldered a usb cable to a
drive because the connector was broken completely off.

She can contact me if she likes and we can work something out.

Hi fellow Mac Enthusiasts. A friend of mine is in dire straits. Alas she is a
pc user and stores all her data on a thumb drive. Yesterday she plugged the
drive into her computer and the flashing light did not flash nor did her pc
recognize the drive. I asked her if she had tried it in other computers and she
said she tried it in two others (pcs, both).

She wants to know if it is possible to recover the data. Is there a data
recovery company that can do the recovery? Is there a program for the PC or Mac
that can force the computer to see the drive?

Any and all help will be appreciated.

I have cc'd her on this message so when you reply if you will please reply all,
she will then have your answer.

TIA.

Harry
