Here are couple of problems from what is the probably the oldest dinosaur in
the group -- an Intel Core 2 Duo running OS 10.5.8, bought in September
2008. Over the years, it and I have made various arrangements and
agreements that enable us to do the reasonably simple tasks I need done.
But just recently, a new problem has arisen: when I put the old guy to
sleep, if it stays asleep as long as an hour, it won't wake up, but has to
be completely restarted from the button on the back of the monitor. For a
while, it was requiring a restart from the violet/blue screen with a button
that allows a restart with the mouse. Now it's a complete restart with the
"on" button in back or nothing. Not major, I guess, but time consuming.

Second problem: I use google mail. When I want to check the in-box, I need
the google notifier in the top bar. It disappears at random times, and to
get it back, I have to click on the google notifier on my desktop. This
gives me a pop-up that says I should install the google notifier in my
applications folder, which I have done several times. It doesn't work.
Instead, I click on the pop-up, and I get another pop-up that says, in
effect, "This app was downloaded from the Internet, etc.; do you want to
open it?" When I click on open, I get another pop-up that says, "Do you
want to copy this app to your applications folder?" I click on "yes" and
finally get the notifier in the top bar, from whence I can access my email.
But I have to do this repeatedly. The google notifier is clearly in my
Applications folder on the HD; why doesn't it automatically show up in the
top bar? I think these are simple matters, but my aged head is beyond
simplicity. Any suggestions gratefully received.

Nolan
