Bill, I found the missing folders in the ".trashes" folder on the same hard drive where they originally resided. I do not know how or where to find a ".trash" folder. For that matter, I just searched invisible files on my external drive and internal drive at home and can't find either a ".trash" or ".trashes" folder on either of them.
