All routers have a way to change their settings. Most allow you to log into the
router with a Web browser that's on the same internal network. Others, such as
the Apple Airports, make you do it with a dedicated program.

Once you get in, there's a setting to change the channel. Just choose one you
aren't set to and try it. The best ones to try at first are the lowest and
highest (likely 1 and 11) because they have neighboring channels on only one
side, so there's less change of a neighbor interfering. But, if your neighbors
know this, the top and bottom channels may already be occupied, so give channel
6 a try.

In general, the spread of each channel is actually about five channels wide—the
center and two on each side—so channel 5, for example, can get interference
from strong signals on channels 3-7.
