From earlier history on this issue:
I did find a different link, one for a dedicated update to an existing ver. 
10.13.2 — and THEN it only worked with an inactive disk (started up from a 
cloned backup) to accept the update.  I’m now running ver. 10.13.3 without any 
apparent problem.  

What I’m wondering about now is the AppStore’s update status of ver. 10.13.3, 
and its lacking of any history of my past downloads of the new version and 
subsequent attempts to update from there, after the Notification update notice 
came to my computer.
