It looks like they use the optocouplers for inputs and possibly a level 
converter/buffer/inverting buffer for outputs.  
Find a good picture of the chip tops and look them up.  That picture is not 
quite good enough.
It will probably work fine.  Some old laptop parallel ports I've stolen 
buffer chips from ran at 3.3v.
