To help you find the guitar sounds that are right for your next hit, we
compiled a list of the best free guitar VST plugins that you can download
and start using in your productions today. The following software covers a
wide variety of guitars: electric, acoustic, classical, lap steel,
12-strings, and non-Western stringed instruments like the Chinese moon
guitar (yueqin) or the Greek bouzouki.

Designed, recorded, and produced by Dimitris Plagiannis, our first entry
into the Plectra Series of virtual instruments is a classic instrument of
Greek music. Reminiscent of the European mandolin but with a deeper, richer
tone, the bouzouki has its roots as one of the oldest musical instruments.
No sample libraries existed that truly captured this beautiful instrument
in great depth and detail, until now!

Our 8-string acoustic bouzouki has been thoroughly sampled and produced
with all the love and care you would expect from a next-generation virtual
instrument. Extensive, custom scripting by Dimitris has been created to
simulate real playing as accurately as possible. From dynamic changes to up
and down strokes, string selection, note speed, legato slides, hammer-ons,
pull-offs, and more, every facet of bouzouki performance has been
painstakingly recreated.

When it comes to freely downloadable multi-sampled guitars, there are
surprisingly few high-quality libraries online. For example, there are
dozens of excellent piano sample libraries you can download for free, but
that is not the case with guitars.

The download of this library is delivered using the Pulse Downloader app
which needs to be installed first. You will also need to sign up for a free
Impact Soundworks user account. After signing up and adding Shreddage 3
Stratus FREE to your user account, you will receive the download key for
Pulse Downloader.

*Peel Guitar* is a free guitar sound library for LABS, a free sample player
VST plugin. Developed by Spitfire Audio, the LABS sampler plugin has
quickly become one of the best virtual instruments for sample playback. The
reason for this is that the team at Spitfire Audio keeps releasing
high-quality sample libraries for the LABS platform. These are often
professional-quality sound libraries that could easily cost $50 or more.

Pettinhouse offers several free guitar sample libraries for Kontakt.
Although the full version of Kontakt is required to use the included NKI
patches, each library also contains the samples in WAV format. This means
that they are compatible with virtually all sampler plugins and digital
audio workstations on the market.

A library called *FunkyGuitar* is pictured above, but you can also grab a
free acoustic guitar library, a nice collection of guitar mutes and slaps,
and more. The samples can be downloaded directly from the Pettinhouse
website without signing up for a user account.

The single largest piece of remaining work relates to playback. The
'primary' Fluid synthesiser will remain the default, as is the case with
MuseScore 3 but we will be removing the the 'secondary' Zerberus
sampler/synthesiser and replacing it with VST support (Zerberus is
incompatible with the GPL3 license, which we needed to switch to in order
to support VST3). We are also developing an optional sound library that
will not be packaged with MuseScore, which can be downloaded and activated
(for free) once the application has been installed. We will create a
separate detailed post about this shortly.
