This week's puzzler:

A family of four and their dog are trapped on an island, when rising floodwaters tear out the bridge that they had used just a few hours earlier.  When they had just given up hope the son says, "I've got a small boat and oars."

But their joy was short-lived. The manufacturers instructions printed on the boat stern tell that the boat can carry only 180 pounds.

The dog is the only one who can swim.

The father weighs 170. The mother says she weighs 130 but its more like 155. The son is 90 pounds, the daughter is 80, and the dog is 15.

Heres the question: is there any way, which the family can be saved? And if so, whats the fewest number of crossings they have to make to save everybody?

Last week's puzzler:

A young fellow goes into a convenience store to buy a couple of things. He buys a package of razor blades, shaving cream, a bottle of cheap aftershave lotion and a candy bar. The clerk rings up his total, and it comes out to $13.59.

The fellow opens his wallet. Hes got a buck. He says, "Oh man oh, wait a minute. I have an emergency fifty tucked in my wallet." He takes it out. He hands the fellow the fifty-dollar bill. The cashier gives him his change, and as he does so the cashier says," Thats interesting!"

The customer says, "Geez, it is!"

So, whats so darn interesting?

Last week's puzzler answer:

What's interesting is he gets a 20, a 10, a five, a one, a quarter, a dime, a nickel and a penny. There are eight little things in the cash register. He gets one of each.
