Hi all,
As you have probably heard by now, we were two days late leaving
Georgetown as the weather was not in our favour. We finally left
last Sunday in clear skies and had a great flight to Thunder Bay,
where again we were stopped by weather. This happened each day in
our travels, so stopped in Brandon Manitoba the next night, then
Vermillion Sask, Peace River and finally getting to Fort Simpson
Thursday afternoon. Weather here was very warm, almost 30 C.
Good to see Alan again. He has a nice house that he is renting,
very bright and spacious. Another pilot for the summer is staying
in his house with him, and they seem to get on well.

The day after we got here, Alan had his dad co-pilot the Twin
Otter as he took a group of tourists and gear to the Moose Ponds,
which is the headwater of the Nahanni River. They will paddle and
portage back here, expecting to arrive in 21 to 25 days. John was
absolutely thrilled to be flying with Alan, and to be in the Twin
Otter again. He was full of talk about it for days afterwards.

We have been going for walks and chatting with folks here,
whenever Alan is working. Last night we all went to a surprise
birthday party for a parks girl, Sharon, who we had met when we
were last here. Everyone is incredibly friendly, and age
difference are of no importance. We finally walked home at 2 am,
and the sky was like dusk, it never did get completely dark.

Today we are going for a picnic BBQ at Jacques and Laverna's,
Alan's boss's place. An old bush pilot from this area, Pete
Cowie, will also be there. We have read about him in a number of
books of the north, so there should be lots of stories to listen
to this evening.

We haven't a schedule as to what we are doing and when, as we wait
for Alan to firm things up for us, and that is a wait and see
situation. Indeed, Alan has not changed that much.

Time to go get ready for the BBQ, so will be in touch later.
