G4 PowerBook 550Mhz, 512 MB RAM, Rev. B When I boot in OS9 with extensions off to rebuild desktop, or for other reasons, the date resets to 1904, as if the PRAM battery were dead. Upon booting back up with extensions on, the date is still 1904.
Is this expected behavior on this machine, or something else. Also, consistent printing problems with desktop printer active. Printing to networked LW 16/600 causes (a) nothing to happen; or (b) error message that a connection was made to the LW, but it is not responding to queues. If I bypass the network and physically connect directly to the LW, no problem, or it prints, then applications from which I am printing freezes. Third, unable to connect to networked Macs via chooser on appletalk. I get the sign-in box, but machine freezes after entering uid/passwd. If I connect directly to the ethernet port on another machine, it will connect fine. Finally, mail sending to smtp server via network/dsl fails about halfway through. It works fine on my home dsl with the exact same model router (LinkSys EtherFast Cable/DSL Router) and same setup. Of I can switch the tcp/ip settings for dialup, and connect via modem and it works fine. Any suggestions for any of these problems? Please email me directly as I am in digest mode. If I am able to solve any of these, I will send the solution to the list. I am cross-posting to the G-Books and MacNetwork lists, because the problem may be related to the PB itself or to the networking setup. My apology to recipients of both messages.
