you're right, i was thinking about free ppp verses the newer ppp and
modem panel.  for networking i think the newer software is supposed be
faster and more flexible.  but i haven't got my network up yet, it's on
the list after the garage workshop when i'll have multiple macs and a pc
in different places....  ah summer.
