Thanks to all those that answered. I got a good deal on some CAT 6 from MacConnection, I think it was, 7 foot cables for $4.95. Actually now that I look at it the connector has GIG written on it.
My system seems to really, really slow down when I am transferring large files. I was worried it was the cable. I am new to running two computers connected, so maybe that kind of system slowdown should be expected. I am running a beige 266 connected with a iBook 500 snow. Those are both 10/100 right, so I should be running at 100Mbits/sec right? The files are being transferred from an external SCSI at 5400 thru the 266 DT to the icebook. A 1 gig transfer can take over 30 minutes. Is that normal? BTW, thanks whoever pointed us to threemacs.com the other day. Through that I got the shareware EpsonShare that allows me to use my inkjet without having to buy another one yet. >CAT1 is typically telephone wire.
