Hi Laurie,

I have a PowerMac 5400 and I think I could answer your question, however I
also don't think this is the right forum for your question. The PCI
PowerMacs list from Lowendmac.com would better help you.

OTOH, it is not difficult, so I will post here. All you'll need is a
phillips screwdriver.

On the back of the mc at the bottomthe cables connect are two clips. Remove
all cables plugged into the mac and flip the master power switch off. Slide
your fingers under the clips and pull and the back should come off. You are
now at the drive bays and the motherboard bay. The HDD is on the back left
of the bottom bay. To remove the HDD push the clip under the drive up and
pull it out. Make sure to disconnect the ribbon and power cables. Gently
remove the HDD. To remove the slider from the bottom remove the four
screws. Replace the bay on the new drive and reinstall it in the unit.

The 5xxx series uses IDE/ATAPI based HDDs, and SCSI based CDROMs.

I hope this helps you, and again, please try this in the PowerMac PCI list
if you have any other questions.

JeffL
