I have a clamshell ibook that will not "catch" a TCP/IP number. At my
school, our firewall disperses TCP/IP numbers through DHCP. All other
computers are fine except this ibook. The number it is receiving start
with 169.xxx and I have been told that this is somewhat of a self
assigned number and is not being assigned through our firewall. That
would make sense because this laptop cannot get out on the web through
ethernet cat 5 cable or aiport networking. I can see others on the
network via appleshare. I tried installing a new system folder, but the
problem remains. Is there a card or something inside of the ibook that is
broken? Is there a way to replace something or test to see what is not
working. Thanks in advance.
