Cry for help

Having an iMac (self) and a windows laptop (work) I want to set up a 
wireless link so I can leave the laptop in the office and still access 
the internet etc.

I have an airport card in the iMac and a wireless PCMIC card in the 
laptop.

The laptop can pick up the signal when the iMac is set to computer to 
computer but I cannot get them to talk.
What have I missed?
I have set up both machines as i think they should be set up and have 
read all the instructions but...
OSX.2 and/or 9.2 on the iMac and 98 on the laptop.
