When I moved to the country, I gave up fast Internet. That was hard to lose. But a year after I got here, the local phone company added DSL to their list of offerings. Alas, this is not the city. There are no special signing deals. $65 to sign up. $99 for a modem. $64.95/mo. And, if I want a fixed IP, $24.95 extra per month.
The pre-configured modem they sell is (the lady on the phone who knows almost nothing tells me) StarSmart. Which appears to be an ADSL modem. I grabbed some text from the net, and there it is, below. The modem I own from my former Verizon connection is a Fujitsu Speedport, a very common item. Once the phone company puts in my digital line, is it worth my while postponing buying the StarSmart and trying to use my Fujitsu? Or are they night-and-day different? timo StarSmart II ADSL StarSmart II ADSL 11 ...
