You probably mean you have them networked with Localtalk, which is the
name for the cabling. AppleTalk is the name for the protocol, which runs
on either Localtalk or Ethernet cables.

For the 550 you need an LC ethernet card. The 575 can use either an LC
ethenet card or a Comm Slot I ethernet card. The 6100 needs an AAUI
adapter. Used ones are cheap, readily available, and hassle-free. The
clone may need a PCI ethernet card and driver if it doesn't already have
one; that may give you more trouble than the Apples. The G3 already has
everything you need.

The driver software for Apple cards and interfaces is built-in to the
system software from 7.5 on. You will need upgrades for specific
applications, not the ethernet itself. For example, Accelerated Reader
6.3x needs System 8.6 or later; this forced our school to retire our 575s
and 580s.

You will want to run both the AppleTalk protocol and TCP/IP on your
ethernet. And you will want to have one or all of the file servers
supporting AppleShare (AppleTalk file sharing). You should make sure the
people planning your installation know this and agree to it, lest you end
up with a network switch that blocks AppleTalk or prevents it from
working properly.
