Poor fellow, lost your mind, eh?
Not to worry, let's pick you up off the floor!
I have many of the parts and pieces you describe: I own the Bondi iMac (Rev.A), running OS 9.1. I have the later model iMac too, a slot load G3 400 DV model. I have four iBook/Powerbook clients running in the house: a Tangerine G3/300 running OS 9.2.2, a pair of late model iBooks, and a late model Powerbook. I have the AEBS connected to a Motorola cable modem. And I have two other Airport WDS modules in the house to bring the signal all over the place. One of these is an Airport Express that has a Bose Wave Radio connected to it for iTunes playback. The other is a Buffalo WLA-G54C wireless repeater bridge connected to a 4 port switch. Buffalo uses the same Broadcom chipset as Apple's Airport Extreme, so these are fully compatible.
So the Bondi iMac is connected to the four port switch which is connected to the Buffalo repeater bridge. I also have a Apple Laserwriter 8500 hanging off this switch, so available to the entire home network using TCP/IP printing. The other computers in the house are all wireless clients, both Extreme and non-extreme Airport cards.
Everyone can print to the Laserwriter and technically, everyone can file share. But this is not so easy to hook up, so I will not elaborate on file sharing here. There is some voodoo to making it work correctly... Don't ask!
But the internet access part and the printing part is a no-brainer today and for the last 3 years, so it can be yours too for a small additional investment. Good Luck!
Wow, Geoff, you really have a lot of stuff there! Makes mine seem very small.
Ok, I should break this down into smaller bits for you to answer so that I can follow and understand it.
CURRENT SETUP:
G4 iMac (a.k.a. iLamp) running Mac OS 10.3.8 connects to the following:
AirPort Extreme Base Station via 802.11b
AirPort Express via AirTunes (802.11b also)
G3 Bondi iMac Rev. B (HARMONi-zed) via cross-over Cat5 cable; Drives on Bondi can be seen and mounted on iLamp
Internet via either internal modem or AEBS built-in modem
15" AlPowerBook via 802.11b
G3 Bondi iMac Rev. B (HARMONi-zed) running Mac OS 9.1 connects to the following:
Internet via internal modem
G4 iMac (a.k.a. iLamp) via cross-over Cat5 cable; Drive on iLamp CANNOT be seen mounted on Bondi.
First step/question:
After connecting a straight Cat5 cable between the Bondi and the AEBS, how do I configure the Bondi to use the AEBS built-in modem?
Once the first step is completed satisfactorly, we will go to the next one. -- Sincerely, Dennis
