Hi all,
I have three macs, a powermac 5500, a Starmax 4000, both with os 9.1, and a G4 with Panther (10.3.9). The problem comes in whenever I want to share files between the macs. I can use my G4 as the server and connect to it. However, it doesn't appear in the chooser- i have to type in the IP address. Also, I have to connect to the G4 every time i turn on one of the others. I set one of the OS 9 machines to connect at startup and it refuses to do so. Any ideas?
It's not going to show up under the chooser.
You might try making an alias of the G4 after it's mounted, or adding it to favorites on the OS9 machines.
How about using the recent servers folder item under the Apple menu?
The other problem is that I have sharing enabled on the OS 9 machines so they can share files among those machines. The problem is that I can't connect to them with the G4. The G4 has to be the server, apparently. Is this true? Can I fix this?
My network is like this: G4 connected to the Westell router by Airport. The others are connected via ethernet. Thanks guys.
Anthony
Every machine can be both a client and a server.
If the OS9 machines can fileshare between them, the setup is correct with regard to that. Remember that all of the machines must have IP addresses to fileshare with OSX. It sounds like that is taken care of by your Westell router.
This may be the problem here- Is AppleTalk turned on on the OSX machine and pointed out of the proper port (airport, it seems)? System Preferences> Network (show Aiport) > AppleTalk (make active)
