I just went through a similar situation with my brother, turns out he had
all the wires connected wrong, although they were connected correctly for
over 2 years and working fine.

But he convinced me that he had it put together correctly so I had him
troubleshoot the hardware. Then brother #2 stopped by and found the whole
thing connected bass ackwards.

It¹s just the way the problem was described.

>>> I have a G4 os x 3.9 with a d link router connected to a windoz xp
>>> machine with a cable modem.

If you know it¹s all connected correct and both computers can¹t connect to
the isp then disconnect the router and connect each computer, one at a time
to the cable modem. If they both see the isp then you know the problem is
with the router.

If neither can connect direct to the modem, then you need to check the modem
settings.

If all fails then you go to plan 2.
