Hello All,
I would like to put a file server (an older Mac, PPC 603 or 604) on my home
Ethernet network. It would also function as a backup device. But the
filename restrictions of 32 characters is a show-stopper. Is there any way
to remove this limitation on the old Macs?
No.
Also, Mac OS X Tiger's AppleTalk support (or lack thereof) makes it more
difficult to mount a older Mac's drive on the desktop. What can be done
about this?
Install OS 9.1, it supports AppleShare IP on Personal FileSharing.
Thanks for any advice. Also, if Linux might serve as a better solution on
the old Macs, I could be up for that challenge.
It might but I don't know how Mac compatible it will be.
A better option might be to find an old beige machine and install OS
X, 10.2 or 10.3 (with XPostFacto).
