I would respond with the statement that Linux is not Unix, but OS X is. There 
are many things in Linux that have been extended beyond the Unix definitions or 
otherwise go in a different direction. It appears that the abstract sockets 
code is one of these. Perhaps the real solution if you want to maintain 
compatibility is to use something that is actually common. Your code, right?
