Hi all, I am developing a packet filter kernel extension. I have discovered that on only Mac OS X 10.11, my kext causes Spotlight to fail to load suggestions from the Internet. In the system log, I’ve found these entries that appear to be relevant:
Apr 19 13:51:01 Andrew1011Test SpotlightNetHelper[299]: [SLSUGGESTIONS] Location managed failed with error Error Domain=kCLErrorDomain Code=0 "(null)" Apr 19 13:51:07 --- last message repeated 1 time --- Apr 19 13:51:07 Andrew1011Test Spotlight[260]: XPC connection was invalidated Apr 19 13:51:17 Andrew1011Test SpotlightNetHelper[299]: [SLSUGGESTIONS] PRSSearchSession received an error (-1001) while searching Apr 19 13:51:17 --- last message repeated 1 time --- The first log entry seems to appear immediately when I type a character in a Spotlight search, and the last log entry corresponds with Spotlight displaying the text “Not found” in grey right after my query. I’m having trouble identifying my kext is tripping up Spotlight. Has anyone seen these errors before, perhaps in another scenario? Thanks, - Andrew Keller
