XChar 2.0 for X released
By ron carlson, Insanely Great Mac
May 20th 2002
Feeling lost without Classic''s Key Caps? Here''s a tool that''ll help you find
uncommon characters under OS X
Zik Software has announced the immediate availability of XChar 2.0 -- an OS X utility
that allows you to use uncommon characters even if you don''t remember the correct key
combination. This new version adds compatibility for applications which do not support
drag and drop and also allows to copy the font and style along with the character.
Moreover, lots of bugs were fixed and the interface has been improved.
How it works
XChar displays a window containing all the characters that your Mac can display. When
you''ve located the character you need, simply drag and drop it into position in the
application you''re using.
When XChar is no longer needed, you can collapse its window to a small icon and place
it wherever you want on the screen. When you need it again, simply click on it and it
will zoom to full size. XChar is a US$10 shareware product.
Zik Software is also the force behind PrefsOverload for Classis and X -- a program
that helps users manage the plethora of preference files. Other Zik titles include
Alias Multiplier, IconCleaner and ExtensionTracker.
Zik Software is in fact Angelo Scicolone who is an 18-year-old Sicilian.
