Mitsumi the cures to D-Link blues
By ron carlson, Insanely Great Mac
May 23rd 2002
IGM reader and MaCity (Italy) editor Settimio Perlini writes that there''s more than
one way to skin a cat
Apple''s recent cancellation of orders for the D-Link USB adaptor caught users by
surprise and undoubtedly left more than a few in a lurch.
MaCity editor Settimio Perlini and IGM reader wrote to tell us that Mitsumi''s
WIF-0402C USB Bluetooth adaptor appears to work well with the Mac and is available
about the same price (80 + VAT) as the solution vetted by Apple.
Perlini reports that the Mitsumi adaptor has a range of up to 10m and requires v2.0 of
Apple''s Bluetooth software.
One caveat, at least for North America Mac users, is that this product appears to only
be available in Europe -- it isn''t listed on either the company''s US or Asian
websites.
MaCity has a report in English on the Matsumi adaptor, including pictures and
configuration information.
Analysis: It wouldn''t be surprising if the D-Link and Mitsumi USB adaptors were in
fact the same product -- the market for these products is quite small and the number
of manufacturers few.
