Newer Technology is Back - and Makes it Official
By Remy Davison, Insanely Great Mac
June 12th 2002
New products in the pipeline, along with the return of MAXPower upgrades.
In a press release distributed today, Newer Technology, who stated they were under new
owners recently, has announced they will resume making the MAXpower upgrades for
Macintosh.
The Witchita-based company also announced it would develop completely new product for
the Mac market.
Newer Technology filed for bankruptcy late in 2000 and went into liquidation shortly
thereafter. A number of Mac vendors purchased their inventory. IGM''s understanding is
that the CEO of the new Newer, Mr. Rick Este, formerly of PowerLogix, became the owner
of the Newer Technology trademark. Our understanding is also that there is no trading
or business connection between the old and new Newer Technology entities.
However, the old Newer''s utilities and drivers are in the possession of the new
company and are available at Newer Technology''s website.
Among the rumored products Newer allegedly has in development is a G4 upgrade for the
PowerBook G3 FireWire (Pismo). The old Newer Tech previously soldered faster G3 chips
to PowerBook G3s (Wallstreet and Lombard), although few of these were sold before the
firm went under after 14 years in the Mac market.
