Premier for X to debut in Q3

Despite much nay saying, Adobe has ported its high-end video editing app for OS X
Adobe has announced a new version of Premiere, v6.5. From Real-time Preview and the
Title Designer to support for MPEG2 export and DVD authoring, v6.5 provides a complete
editing environment to create and deliver professional, polished video productions,
and it will be available for OS X.
"With its unparalleled hardware support, advanced new features and support for
multiple platforms, Adobe Premiere is the most versatile professional video editing
tool on the market," said Bryan Lamkin, senior vice president of graphics, Adobe.
"Whether creating a digital film, documentary or training video, Adobe Premiere 6.5
users have the power to create video productions that get noticed."
Adobe Premiere 6.5 provides the widest range of video hardware support, including the
latest Sony DVCAM devices and leading third-party capture cards, allowing editors to
customize their workflow to suit their needs. Whether editing in real-time on a laptop
or using an uncompressed, multi-layer real-time system, Adobe Premiere complements
almost any editing suite.
During the editing process, Real-time Preview capabilities in v6.5 allow video editors
to dramatically improve productivity by reducing the time spent rendering projects.
Editors can instantly view effects, titles and transitions as they are made. In
addition, video editors can enhance their projects with broadcast-quality title
sequences created in the new Title Designer. With more than 100 pre-designed templates
and typographical controls, including outlined text, leading and kerning, users can
quickly create eye-catching results. v6.5 also adds more than 90 high-quality Adobe
fonts chosen for video titling.
This latest iteration of Premiere delivers complete, affordable video editing tools
for producing professional-quality video for DVD, tape, web, CD-ROM and film.
Macintosh users benefit from integration with Apple iDVD and DVD Studio Pro that makes
it possible to export MPEG2 files straight from a Premiere timeline.
Editors looking to sweeten their audio can access advanced audio features in v6.5. For
example, Sonic Desktop''s SmartSound QuickTracks, and 11 new source tracks, provide
royalty-free audio that can be altered to fit the length of any project. Also included
is TC Works SparkLE, a 2 track stereo audio editor, for Mac OS.
Adobe continues to offer unparalleled product integration between Adobe Premiere,
After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator software; which make up the Adobe Digital
Video Collection. Adobe Premiere 6.5 includes five more special effect filters from
Adobe After Effects, including Blend, Channel Blur, Directional Blur and Lightning.
Adobe Premiere 6.5 is expected to ship in Q3 for an estimated street price of US$549.
Registered users of earlier versions of Adobe Premiere can upgrade to version 6.5 for
US$149. Adobe Premiere 6.5 will also be updated in the next version of the Adobe
Digital Video Collection.
Analysis: Since the introduction of Apple''s Final Cut Pro, many pundit have posited
that Premier would never make to it X because of the slap-in-the-face that FCP
represented to Adobe. There must have been much complaining to warrant an X-compatible
release.
