>From iTools to .Mac to iScrewed?
By ron carlson, Insanely Great Mac
July 25th 2002
The problems afflicting Apple''s new online services couldn''t be happening at a worse
time
In addition to almost daily enticements -- what''s up with the spam Steve? -- to sign
up for .Mac services, I received this interesting little tidbit in the mail today:
"Dear XXXXX,

"Congratulations! The HomePage you created has been published and is on the web for
the world to see. You can visit your new HomePage at:

"You can make changes to this page with HomePage, the easy and elegant way to share on
the Web, [etc.]"
Oddly, I haven''t made any changes to my .Mac (I haven''t "upgraded" yet) homepage --
a large collection of pics of my kids -- in at least a week.
However, considering all of the .Mac bug reports -- from vanishing mail folders to
misbehaving umlots -- it''s a matter of some wonder that Apple has taken so long to
include me in their troubles. As mentioned in the subhead for this piece, the timing
of these problems couldn''t be worse.
Thereupon, it wouldn''t surprise me if Steven P and his once merry elves (or have they
transmogrified into trolls?) weren''t considering pulling the service. Honestly, .Mac
has gone from an embarrassing user revolt to a system melt down as quickly as you can
say "$99 annual fees."
Have you had problems too? Or, are you one of the lucky and seemingly few that have
moved to .Mac without a hitch? Let us know!
