The last Friday in July has been designated the one day of the year you should kiss
geek booty and mean it
According to www.SysAdminDay.com, the last Friday in July is one day of the year users
should be nice to their resident geeks.
With a splash of the usual "geek humility" (yes, an oxymoron), SysAdminDay states, "A
special day, once a year, to acknowledge the worthiness and appreciation of the person
occupying the role, especially as it is often this person who really keeps the wheels
of your company turning."
Another scab surely worth digging at is the fact that Mac system administrators
aren''t included on the group''s website: Computer Administrators, Network
Administrators, Internet Administrators (webmaster), Telephone (PBX) Administrators,
Voice-Mail Administrators, Database Administrators (DBA), UNIX Administrators, LINUX
Administrators, Lotus Notes Administrators, Novell GroupWise, Administrators, MS
Exchange Administrators, IBM Mainframe Systems Programmers ("sysprogs").
Come on! Mac pros certainly are more numerous than Lotus Notes geeks and thereby
worthy of mention, right?!?

A Lazy Boy
Should you find yourself in a beholding state of mind, SysAdminDay.com does offer a
list of recommended gifts for geeks. This enumeration of treats for the socially
impaired runs the gamut from a case of Iced Mocha Cappuccino or Frappuccino to
extravagant items like a Lazy Boy chair and radio-controlled cars, planes, etc.
Whatever the case, these are people that anyone who works in an office needs and
thereupon it behooves you to make some sort of offering. Although I have no advice on
what this should be, I will say that the life of a freelancer (my current plight) is
devoid of all need to toady to managers or their minions. A word to the wise...
