Apple tops ''Consumer Reports'' survey
By ron carlson, Insanely Great Mac
August 8th 2002
Readers of the benchmark publication rank top brands and our favorite company came out
on top
A recently published Consumer Reports survey states that Apple''s technical support
services were rated "74 out of 100" by customers. Moreover, of the five firms listed
-- Apple, Dell, Gateway, HP, Compaq -- the Mac maker was rated "good" or "better" (the
two highest ratings) in three of five categories.
The survey, which is based on 35,000 responses to the magazine''s 2001 Annual
Questionnaire, goes on to say that with the exception of Apple satisfaction with
technical support services fell across the board.
"Except for Apple, satisfaction scores were somewhat lower across the board, which
appears to reflect changes throughout the industry," said Consumer Reports.
Analysis: Of the 10 Macs I''ve owned over the years, only one has broken during the
warranty period. Yes, there have been other problems but years after they were
purchased. Even the second machines have just run and run. Am I just lucky? How have
you faired with reliability and service?
