Logitech intros new Mac-compatible mice
By ron carlson, Insanely Great Mac
September 23rd 2002

The company extends its optical/cordless product line with three hot new models

Logitech has introduced the MX Series of Performance Mice. Designed for the most
demanding of conditions, these three new mice from Logitech are engineered to provide
advanced precision and control. Powered by the MX Optical Engine, the mice can capture
up to 4.7 megapixels of surface tracking information every second, more than any other
optical mouse to date.

"We''ve invested over 40,000 hours of research and development in the engineering of
the MX Series. Our dedication to superior performance and commitment to aesthetic
detail have fully addressed high-end needs in a great industrial design," said Chris
Bull, director of marketing, pointing devices. "With over ten years of leadership in
cordless technology and more than 27 million cordless products sold, we have the
technical expertise to deliver for today''s advanced [computer] users."

The new models are:

MX700 Cordless Optical Mouse -- The MX700 is the first mouse to feature Logitech''s
new Fast RF cordless technology; an advanced digital system that delivers the
responsiveness of a corded connection, but without the cord. The receiver for the
MX700 also serves as a fast charging station and the rechargeable NiMH batteries can
be powered for a whole day''s use in just ten minutes. The mouse is painted with a
blue/black surface and has highly polished silver accents; available now ($79.95 SRP).
MX500 Optical Mouse -- An advanced mouse with the same next-generation shape and
design as the MX700. The MX500 offers quick access to eight programmable buttons and
is finished in a striking midnight black and dark gray; available now ($49.95 SRP).
MX300 Optical Mouse -- The entry point of the MX performance mouse series is a cable
connected mouse with an ambidextrous design that allows the mouse to fit comfortably
in either the left or right hand. Navigation tools for this mouse include a Quick
Switch Program Selector button and scroll wheel. With a midnight black and dark gray
surface, the MX300 is available now ($39.95 SRP)

The Logitech MX Performance Series of mice are compatible with Classic (8.6 and
higher) and X, including Jaguar.

Editor''s note: My Logitech Pilot Wheel Mouse has been one of my best investments.
Also, the company has kept pace fairly well with the changes Apple has introduced with
X. An X.2-compatible driver for Logitech mice can be found here.
