Aladdin refines, releases, ''lite'' products

The company has loosed its entry-level StuffIt suite and announced pricing/upgrade
details
Aladdin has announced the release StuffIt Standard Edition 7.0, which was previously
called StuffIt Lite.
"StuffIt Standard Edition helps users improve their Internet experience by making it
easy to send and access information," said Matthew Covington, StuffIt product manager.
"StuffIt is an easy way to compress your files so they transmit quickly and open
easily on any computer."
StuffIt 7.0 is the first to include StuffIt X (pronounced "ex") technology, a new file
format that integrates compression with security and safety options to meet the
requirements of business and today''s digital lifestyle. The StuffIt X file format
provides strong encryption (512-bit), improved compression (up to 30 percent), error
correction, larger archive size and support for long file names. StuffIt Standard
Edition, which is a part of StuffIt Deluxe 7.0, meets Mac users'' basic compression
needs (StuffIt X, StuffIt, Zip, Tar en-/decoding).
Users needing basic compression and access to all popular file formats will like the
faster transmission speeds provided by the new StuffIt X format (identified by ".sitx"
extension). Users wanting a more complete compression solution with more capabilities,
should consider using the new StuffIt Deluxe 7.0 package, it provides: unique M$ Word
integration, Magic Menu and one-click Stuff & Mail, as well as full support for
browsing and editing Zip archives.
StuffIt Standard Edition 7.0 sells for $49.99 (SRP) and is available directly from
Aladdin and other major online retailers worldwide. Registered owners of previous
versions of StuffIt Lite, DropStuff or DropZip can upgrade to StuffIt Deluxe 7.0 for
$29.99 or StuffIt Standard Edition for $19.99. All customers who provide StuffIt Lite
6.5.x proof of purchase after August 19, 2002 are eligible for a free downloadable
upgrade to StuffIt 7.0.
