Apple, Sorenson settle lawsuit
By ron carlson, Insanely Great Mac
October 2nd 2002
Two companies that very much need each other have resolved the case out of court
Apple and Sorenson Media have announced the settlement of a pending federal court
lawsuit that had been brought by Apple in April, 2002. The settlement provides for the
dismissal of all claims and counterclaims.
The mothership charged that Sorenson was illegally providing Macromedia with a codec
that Cupertino felt it had paid -- $4.5 million -- for the exclusive right to use.
Sorenson, on the other hand, claimed that the version licensed to Macromedia was
entirely different.
Both companies offer identical press releases and no details about the settlement are
immediately known.
