Iomega releases 48x24x48x USB 2.0 CD-RW

New design and really fast burning set this model apart from bundled burners
Iomega has announced that is now shipping the Iomega CD-RW 48x24x48x (not posted on
their site as of 11:20 EST) USB 2.0 external drive for retail, catalog, and enterprise
sales. With a streamlined new look, intuitive software and the fastest CD-burning
performance in the Iomega family of optical drives, this new drive delivers a premium
platform for capturing and sharing music, photos and other digital content.
"Iomega continues to be a market leader in external CD-RW drives because we deliver
performance, style, and ease of use," said Werner Heid, president and CEO. "I'm also
very pleased with the success of bundling Iomega HotBurn ... software with our CD-RW

The Iomega CD-RW 48x24x48x USB 2.0 drive features buffer under-run protection, which
lets users record safely even while multitasking. It offers hot plug-and-play
capability with Microsoft Windows and Mac OS operating systems, and its digital audio
extraction rate (DAE) of 48x allows users to rip or burn a 60-minute CD in under 3
minutes. While maximum drive speed is attainable only with Hi-Speed USB connections,
the drive is also fully backwards compatible with original USB systems, peripherals,
and cables.
Iomega HotBurn for Mac (USB 1.1 only) provide a simple and powerful console interface
that helps users complete most CD-burning tasks in just two easy steps. The bundle
also includes MusicMatch Jukebox 3.0 for Mac.
The Iomega CD-RW 48x24x48x USB 2.0 drive with HotBurn software is shipping now for
$179.95 (SRP before $30 mail-in rebate).
Editor's note: It's true that OS X does not yet offer USB 2.0 support, but upgrade
cards are available -- like this one from Orange Micro -- so it seems a bit lazy for
Iomega ("pleased with [our] success") not to include it in the Mac version of the app.
