eMac for Education Hits $949
By Remy Davison, Insanely Great Mac
November 28th 2002
'Tis the season to be jolly.
Apple's 'Jingle Bells and Whistles' promo offers education customers the base eMac now
for $949. This represents a $50 instant rebate on mostl eMac models, which applies to
the CDRW, Combo and configure-to-order eMac. The rebate does not apply to the
SuperDrive or 800MHz eMac.
The promotion runs through December 28. Apple states that:
"The instant savings for qualifying purchases from the Apple Store for Education,
Apple Store for Education Institutions, or campus resellers are in lieu of all other
eMac promotions, including mail-in rebate promotions, as the instant savings already
reflect promotional rebates."
Analysis: Not a bad price at all, which makes the eMac a viable altwrnative to the
original G3 iMac, which are arounf $150 less for the base model. That $150 gets you a
fast G4, 17" CRT and a better optical drive.
