Distributed.net refreshes X client
By ron carlson, Insanely Great Mac
December 4th 2002

The effort to crack the next level of encryption is under way now

Distributed.net has updated the X-compatible version of its client to v2.9001 and a
refreshed version for Classic is due "soon." The group's latest encryption-cracking
effort is now actively running and requires v2.9001 (or higher) of their client to
take part.

If you're unfamiliar with Distributed.net, you'll want to check out their mission
statement, which states in part:

We will deploy our software to form an immense, globally distributed computer that
solves large-scale problems and provides an accessible pool of computational power to
projects that need it. This deployment will also demonstrate the real-world utility of
both distributed computing in general and our software in particular.

Answers to questions about the RC5-72 effort can be found here and the new version of
the X client can be downloaded here.
