Small Dog: 'Calibrate your battery'This week's Kibbles & Bytes, the Mac reseller's
newsletter, is the 300th published by the company
For the unitiated, Small Dog Electronics, a fast-growing Apple Specialist based in
Vermont, offers a weekly newsletter that's a refreshingly different from most
resellers' e-mail missives. From news of the company's bocce and softball teams to new
product reviews, as well as the obligatory promotions, Kibbles & Bytes has been a
weekly tradition (the 300th edition arrived in my inbox on Friday) for almost seven
years.
This week's rendition comes choke full of the usual hot deals and specials, as well as
a very informative how to on "calibrating" a portable computer's battery. Small Dog's
Dawn D'Angelillo, customer service representative, spells it out:
"When you first get a laptop computer, you should calibrate the battery. To do this,
you simply plug the power adapter into the computer and fully charge the battery
before turning on the computer. Then disconnect the computer from the adapter and use
the computer until the battery is fully discharged. For an Apple laptop, this means
using the computer past the warning message until the computer puts itself to sleep.
The last step is to fully charge the battery again. This is a one-time process that
doesn't need to be repeated."
Running through this one-time process helps you to get the most out of your new iBook
or PowerBook and can extend life of the battery.
