PowerBook 12.1" Autopsy: Voyage to the Center of Mini-Me
By Remy Davison, Insanely Great Mac
January 31st 2003

Good thing you got AppleCare.

Intrepid PowerBook explorer Mitsnobu Tanaka has published pictures [attrib.
Powerpage.org of his complete dissection of his 12.1" PowerBook G4, aka 'Mini-Me'
(from hereon in, its official name, if no one's declared it officially already. Now
it's official).

For those of a similar bent, he's also laid out all the tools necessary with which to
destroy your new PB in simple, easy-to-follow stages.

First, remove the battery. Wouldn't want to electrocute yourself, would you? Put it
somewhere where you won't find it later. Then, using a thin-bladed screwdriver, prise
up all the keys you're not comfortable with. Don't like F12? Rip out that sucker.

Next, insert the screwdriver, or whatever's handy, between F11 and F12. Apply as much
force as possible. Nothing will happen, but heck, it's more fun than whatever your
wife's doing right now. Speaking of which, shouldn't she have been back by midnight?

Having got this far, it's time to summon up some Dutch courage. That, of course, means
BEER...

Fast forward to 8.43AM the following morning. Bleary-eyed, you examine the entrails of
the PowerBook and decide, like the Romans, that starting the day examining entrails
means you're not in for a lucky one.

Make mental note to call 1800-MY-APPL and claim it arrived in the box like that.
Demand free RAM upgrade, wide-format printer, and 20-gig iPod in hush money for not
reporting this to IGM.
