Safari pops up on the radar
By ron carlson, Insanely Great Mac
February 3rd 2003
OneStat statistics show Apple's new browser for the first time
Quoting a OneStat.com study, Macworld UK reports figures underlining the success of
Apple's Safari, a 0.11 percent share of the world browser market.
"Apple's Safari browser has shown a fast adoption rate, with a global usage share of
0.11 per cent in the first weeks of its public launch," the OneStat report is quoted
as saying.
In relative terms, Apple's new browser is fairer much better than Opera 7, which
claims just a 0.03 percent share. However, the bigger picture still shows Microsoft
browsers dominate the market with 95.2 percent and Netscape holding down second place
with 2.9 percent.
Editor's note: Safari now matters. How much it will matter down the road depends
largely on whether it eventually dominates web browsing on the Mac. The browser's
arrival, though welcomed in terms of its performance and relatively good standards
compliance, has occasioned debate about the merits of Apple's growing arsenal of apps.
