Jobs' 'Other Company' Beats Expectations
By Remy Davison, Insanely Great Mac
February 8th 2003

The old Steve magic works in Hollywood as well.

Pixar Studios delivered a better-than-expected $17 million profit for Q4 2002, a 31%
increase on the year-ago quarter. Revenue was up, at $39.4 million for the quarter,
according to the LA Times. Total revenue for fiscal 2002 was $201.7 million.

Pixar's distribution deal with Disney is up after the studio delivers the three films
it is contractually obliged to deliver, at least through 2005. However, CEO Steve Jobs
said that he was "exploring other options", due to his dissatisfaction with the Disney
deal. He has also had recent meetings with representatives of AOL Time Warner and Fox.
Pixar is free, under the terms of the contract, to explore other options, although it
must deliver a film to Disney in April.

Jobs spoke at a conference call with analysts on Thursday, where he described Pixar as
" "this era's most successful animation company."

Analysis: Few will fail to notice that Pixar delivered better profitability than Apple
- although they're chalk and cheese in the size and revenue department. Although we
wonder how much time he spends at Pixar. Perhaps the studio's employees are thankful
his Apple duties keep him from firing people in the lift.
